A new year always brings changes and challenges in medical billing and coding. None more drastic than the years of the Covid-19 pandemic that paralyzed and overwhelmed the medical field. Fortunately, mental health providers were afforded the loosening of telemedicine requirements that allowed them to continue therapy with their clients. With grief, panic, anxiety and depression levels soaring our providers were busier than ever. Many new video platforms popped up and telemedicine proved to be a very beneficial way to continue "seeing" clients. Telemed seems to be here to stay, and that is good for patients and providers. So all the time spent researching the codes and modifiers needed, continues to be good and necessary information. Some insurance companies reimbursed by using a simple change in the POS from 11 to 02. Medicare continued to use the POS 11 but added modifier 95. Others used POS 10 or 02 with a GT modifier. How many therapy hours would a self-employed therapist have spent trying to figure out how to code for reimbursement for all the many payers? If you have been giving some thought to outsourcing your billing, it may be a good time to reach out to EBS Billing Solutions and see how we can help you in 2024.
